Alums Victorious in Annual Rugby Match Image
More than 40 alumni and current Staples High school rugby players came together today for the annual alumni rugby match. The alumni squad easily defeated the Staples team. After the game finished all the participants stayed and played an extra 60 minutes of game time. The popularity of the rugby program has flourished under Head Coach David Lyme. Staples Grad Wins Pequot Turkey Trot Image
For the second consecutive year, Henry Wynne, 23, a 2013 Staples High School graduate, today won the 5-mile, 41st annual Thanksgiving Day Road Race organized by the Pequot Running Club of Southport. Despite temperatures in the low 20s, thousands took part today in the 41st annual Thanksgiving Day Road Race organized by the Pequot Running Club of Southport. The five-mile race began in Southport, continued through portions of Westport’s Greens Farms section, and ended in Southport. Staples Girls Swim Team Takes 200 Freestyle Image
The Staples Girls Swim Team 200 Freestyle Relay captured first place today (1:36.75) at the CIAC State Open at Yale, with the team of Esme Hunter, Annie Bowens, Morgan Lenoce and Marissa Healy. Healy also finished first in the 100 Butterfly (55.47) and second in the 50 Freestyle (23.70), while Hunter took second in the 100 Backstroke (56.59) and fifth in the 200IM (2:06.60).  The Staples 200 Medley Relay took third (1:46. 94) with Hunter, Bowens, Healy and Olivia Utter. Staples Girls Swimming 3rd at Class LLs Image
The Staples Girls Swim & Dive Team took five first places, and one second place tonight at the Class LL state rivals at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. Staples finished the night in third place overall with 516 points, behind Greenwich (745 points) and Ridgefield (578 points). The Staples swimmers move on to the compete in the State Open at Yale on Saturday.
