Staples Girls Soccer Shuts out Fairfield Warde 2-0

The Staples Lady Wreckers remained undefeated with their sixth win today at home against Fairfield Warde. After a scoreless first period, a brilliant cross from senior Katie Ialeggio led to a well-timed header by senior Marlo Von Der Ahe giving Staples their first goal, four minutes into the second period. A first half penalty kick was the difference tonight as Fairfield Warde nipped the Staples boys soccer team 1-0. The Mustangs remain undefeated, while the Wreckers slip to 3-2-1. Staples Boys Soccer Roars Back to Tie Trumbull

The Staples boys soccer team dug themselves an early hole tonight in Trumbull. Defensive mishaps led to a 2-0 Eagles lead. But the Wreckers roared back. Patricio Perez Elorza’s goal, from George Smith, halved the deficit before halftime. Staples got the equalizer in the second half, when Lars Djuve nodded keeper Reed Caney’s long punt on to Evan Birns. The senior finished with poise and precision. The Wreckers pressed for the equalizer, but settled for a 2-2 tie. Murilo Moreno also shined for the Westporters, who are now 3-1-1. They travel to Fairfield Warde Thursday, for a 5:30 p.m. match. Staples Boys Soccer Edges Norwalk

Evan Birns (9) leaps high, and his Staples High School soccer teammates rush to congratulate him today after scoring against Norwalk. Birns’s goal was all the Wreckers needed to edge the Bears 1-0 in a hard-fought battle at Loeffler Field. Excellent midfield play, smart defense and two excellent saves by keeper Reed Caney aided the effort. Staples is now 3-1-0, and travels to Trumbull for a 5:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday. Staples Boys Soccer Shuts Out Trinity

Aidan Mermagen (above) was one of several sophomores who got plenty of time in Staples boys soccer’s 6-0 shutout today of Trinity Catholic at Loeffler Field. Patricio Perez Elorza and Haydn Siroka led the way with two goals each. Lars Djuve and Reese Watkins added solo strikes. Assists came from Djuve, Watkins, Sam Liles, George Smith and Josh DeDomenico. Staples Boys Soccer Begins With Win

It took just two minutes for Staples to get on the scoreboard today at Central High School in Bridgeport. The boys soccer team opened with a 4-1 win. Alan Fiore (celebrating, center, with teammates) got the opening goal. Evan Birns added two more, and Haydn Siroka tacked on the final tally. Surya Balaji and Brendan Lynch anchored the defense.
