The Westport Public School today reminded parents that despite closures, registration for new students in currently underway for the 2020-21 academic year.
“As we navigate the ongoing challenges associated with the COVID-19 crisis during the 2019-2020 school year, the district continues its planning for the 2020-21 school year,” said John Bayers, the schools’ director of human resources and general administration.
“A crucial aspect of this work is registering new students, particularly those entering kindergarten on Sept. 1, 2020. “
Bayers stressed that even with the closure of school offices, secretaries and administrators can still process incoming student registrations.
He said the registration of incoming kindergarten students began with school-based information sessions in early March, at which time parents were encouraged to use the district’s online portal.
Bayers added that parents who have not yet begun the online registration process can do so at the following link: https://www.westportps.org/parents/student-registration/kindergarten-registration.
He directed parents who are unsure of what elementary school their child should attend to visit the school locator website https://www.westportps.org/parents/school-locator-and-directions
For the registration of first through twelfth grade students, parents can visit the following link: https://www.westportps.org/parents/student-registration
“Once families have completed the online registration process, a secretary from the school will reach out to discuss the best means for verifying residency during the COVID-19 closure,” Bayers said.
For further assistance, he asked residents to call the schools superintendent’s office at (203) 341-1026 and leave a message.
“The staff reviews messages on a regular basis and will follow up as soon as possible,” Bayers said.
