June E. Quist, 88

June Edna Quist, a longtime resident of Washington, formerly of Westport, died Nov. 4 at Geer Nursing Home in Canaan. She was 88.

Born in 1929 in Westport, she worked at the Educational Workshop in town for many years. Later in life she married her true love Vincent Quist, and moved to Washington Depot and soon after started a family.

She worked at Judea Nursery School as a preschool teacher, and then went on to working for Dr. Stuart Conto in his dental office. Not happy being retired, June went to work for Country Corner Catering in Washington.

She was the ultimate hostess, always welcoming with a smile. June loved to entertain her family and friends and also loved sitting with her feet in the sand at the beach in Westport, which was always considered home.

She is survived by her son, Gunnar Quist, daughter Margit Quist, brother Thomas Caldwell, and granddaughters Isabela and Ava, who kept her going these past few years.

Services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Salem Covenant Church in Washington.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in June’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
