Palmer: Close CMS for Balance of School Year

Westport Schools Superintendent Colleen Palmer tonight recommended that Coleytown Middle School (CMS) remain closed for the balance of the school year due to air quality issues.

Students have been dispersed to Staples High School and Bedford Middle School since closure of CMS last month.

Palmer told a meeting of the Board of Education that preliminary work had found numerous water-related issues at CMS.

She said it would be impossible to correct them in a short amount of time.

The board voted 7-0 to approve the superintendent’s recommendation.

The board also voted to request permissions to locate six portable classrooms at BMS as well as installation of a temporary, flexible cover at BMS to accommodate the temporary classrooms.
