Prominent Westport Waterfront Property Sells for $10M

One of Westport’s most prominent properties, 261 Hillspoint Road between Old Mill Beach and Compo Beach behind stone walls overlooking Long Island Sound, has changed hands for $10 million, according to a filing in the Town Clerk’s Office. Image

The seller was Dianne B. Bernhard, widow of Arnold Van Hoven Bernhard, who died March 7, 2018 at age 83. He was the son of the late Arnold Bernhard, founder and chief executive officer of Value Line Inc., the world’s largest investment advisory service. The buyers were Melissa and Doug Bernstein of Westport, the toy manufacturers.

It had been on the market 309 days with the last asking price $14.9 million, reduced in May from the original $20 million listing price last November. It was the first time the 1978-built property was up for sale in almost three decades

The 5,206 square-foot property on 1.48 acres has four bedrooms, four baths, and three partial baths. Two of its four bedrooms open to vast waterside decks and balconies.

In addition to the private beaches lining the property, there is a heated pool at the water’s edge with a pool house that accommodates guests.

There is also a complete outdoor kitchen, equipped with high-end appliances and amenities.
